Literature Review Group/Wikipedia Page

This literature review group and Wikipedia entry was one experience that I would never forget. It was very difficult and frustrating at first because the instructions were vague not clear at all. Working with a team as well is frustrating especially when everyone is in separate places. It takes a team effort to get the project completed. My team member Rob Way is the best. I was able to talk with him and he helped me out a lot by explaining what he thought we had to do. There was no negative feedback from him at all. Once I got the groove of the project I was able to do what I needed to do to help my team complete this task assignment. It was amazing to see the final piece come together after everyone putting their input in. It was great to see how some group members knew more than the others and didn’t mind helping the others out and never once complained about it. Once Dr. Umpstead reviewed my work and gave me important insight, I was also able to complete the assignment. Hats OFF to Dr. Umpstead.

Wikipedia changes

It took me a minute to figure out how to change something in Wikipedia. It took me some time to think about whose page I could edit. I had a mental block for a moment. I was getting highly frustrated. This was really beginning to work my nerves. I had to use the help section to read on how to edit a page. It helped me a little but then I just kept at it. Once I figured it out it was much easier than I thought it would be. I went to several pages to edit but they were protected such as Beyonce Knowles, Usher Raymond, and Princess Diana. I finally thought okay let’s change the words in Britnay Spears song, Oops, I did it again. I changed the word did to done and the word one to two. Now that I know what I am doing I think I might try it again to see what happens. If it was that easy for me to change the simple words in this song, this is not a very reliable source to use as a reference to a research paper or any type of work.

Online Wimba Class Guest Julia Fallon

It was very interested to hear about Twitter and how it can be public or private but you are not really private because the government can basically read what you are tweeting about. It's amazing to know that she knew about President Obama's speech before he even made the speech. Twitter seems too complicated for me. I would miss out on a whole conversation and be absolutely lost.I got confused when Julia was talking about DM and the different threads. Also that you can see your follower's tweet but you can't see the entire conversation of someone else if you are not their follower. So it's like she said, a lot of things can be taken out of context if you don't know the full conversation or meaning of what was said. I really like FaceBook now that I have had the page for almost two years now.

Prezi Presentation

This Prezi Introduction was not as bad as I thought it would be. It took me at least two hours or more to actually get everything the way I wanted it. It took me several minutes to get my pictures downloaded correctly and in the right place to download them on the Prezi. I didn’t try animoto. I might try it a later time to see what are the similarities and the differences between these two software programs. I will share this software with the upper grades and the TAG (gifted program) to see if this is something they would like to do with their students. I don’t think I could do this with my first graders and they actually get the concept. It was enjoyable and fun when I finally got the idea and the hang of the software. As a first grade team, during open house, I think this could be something new to show to the parents instead of a powerpoint that does not really have any movement hardly. I asked the computer technology person at my school if she at heard of these programs and she stated that she haven’t but she would like to see them to see if this is something she would like for some students to do at the technology fair.

What Sticks

At first, I couldn't remember what this chapter was about, but as I started reading it I was like Okay I remember these stories. What stood out to me about this chapter is getting to know your audience and trying to see how you can tailor and communicate with them. It's just like preaching, you have to get the audience attention and keep it. What can be done to get my students to understand and remember the concepts that are being taught? What things can I do to get the primary things that need to be learned to stick with them throughout the year? With teaching, you have to be creative and not lecture majority of the time and give worksheets. I like the 6 principles of successful ideas, but the ones that really capture my attention was the emotions and stories. What emotions can I give to show my students what they really need and how important it is for them to get it, achieve it, and apply it in every way possible. I tell my students different stories everyday to try to get them to focus on the main idea and real life. The more they get it now and achieve it, the easier it will be for them to apply as they move on to the next grade.
